This is something I’ve thought to myself, even early on with recovery. I saw the OCD and Anxiety as a scab, what happens when you keep picking a scab? It will start bleeding and the healing process starts again, and again, and again. So how does a scab heal? You leave it alone. How do you break free from this cycle of anxiety? You keep living. For me, this is easier said than done because for the past 4 months the recovery process has been my number 1 priority in life. And I guess that’s the paradox of OCD and anxiety, you want nothing more in life than to go back to your old life without this disorder but in the process you remain stuck because that’s what you are focused on.

Yep that perfectly describes my biggest challenge as well, I understand logically the process and what I must do. But at the same time I value my well being and want to recover - so I check to see if it's gone, I focus on symptoms, I read on it and many other compulsions with the best intention - but it keeps the cycle going. Then I catch myself after weeks of not seeing progress and it's clear to me why that is. I'm trying to get to a place of acceptance where I am ok with my current state and no longer trying to manipulate it into some different state and become completely outcome independent, like prioritizing self-care not to get rid of anything but just because it's what I want to do and I know it's good for me. But yeah I always end up weaponizing self-care to eliminate anxiety, teaching my brain further that anxiety is a big deal we must be afraid of. Unlearning \ forgetting \ teaching our brain that something is insignificant and not important does indeed require from us to leave it alone and shift our focus on things that are more important (such as living our lives), on a positive note I'm convinced 100% that patterns can be broken :) keep going, same goes for me, it's a practice!

If I can say something to comfort those of you who have intrusive thoughts/feelings around religious topics. The fact that your brain has chosen religion as it’s target this time is precisely because that’s what you least want it to. So your real wants and your real personality is as far from those intrusions as possible. To use myself as an example, I’m very not religious. So if I have a pop up thought about some religious figure or blasphemous action. That thought holds no value positive or negative for me. So I won’t get attached, and I won’t try to force it away either. And the result is that I don’t have these thoughts often. But I am struggling with intrusive thought/feelings in other areas about topics that my morality find very very important. And those are the thoughts my brain delivers to me in loop over and over. So in conclusion, the topic of our intrusions says nothing about our identity or wishes. Good luck to us all in getting free ❤

I have intrusive thougts about others harming or wanting to harm me. Or that objects shall harm me, or that i harm myself on my surroundings. It is as if i self harm with only mind. I am fearful of all. Is this this the same category as intrusive thoughts according to psychology? It's to constant to be intrusive. And i do not relly mind or fear them. But they hurt in my body and i would like to replace them with trust.

Hi Matt! I have a question, when suffering from anxiety and OCD these feelings and their intensity is experienced in such an exaggerated way compared to when I didn't have the disorder, I'm always puzzled by why is the feelings and the sensitivity is at a full blown 10/10 over even minor perceived threats or worries. Do you have thoughts on this perhaps? I know a byproduct of recovery will also return sensitivity levels to a more normal state eventually, but whats causing this increased intensity of emotions to begin with? I heard some people say "general sensitization" is causing this, if it's true could you maybe elaborate on this concept in a future video?

Currently going through anxiety over probable future job loss. Joined this new company 3 weeks ago. The director is asking for a meet up in a different city for a week. At first I thought it was optional because we are a remote company and travelling to a different city and stying is quite expensive and I hardy know any of the new colleagues to travel so far for a team building event. Ll so I politely declined with my reasoning. He mentioned that this is something mandatory and cannot be skipped because we have critical upcoming quarters. He mentioned this in a bit stern tone and now I am feeling that I have started my work relationship on the wrong foot with my superior. And hence the anxiety.

I like this perspective. However it's still hard for me because, in my case, I don't really know how I ended up in this way of thinking. It's like one day I was having anxiety and wanted to forget about it, but then I put myself in a loop, which I've been in for months...

Ive never heard anyone explain EXACTLY what I am battling with. Compulsive prayer, expressing gratitude and asking for protection for me and my loved ones out of fear of "something bad" happening. Prayer and meditation were useful tools, until the claws of OCD took hold. Now a compulsion, with the facade of seeking "divine connection, etc", one becomes even more disconnected from self and loved ones as theres not enough hours in the day to perform every OCD behaviour AND particupate in daily life. I am so self aware that I use it against myself, as my brain deploys intrusive thoughts which manifest into destructive behaviours, attaching to every intricate detail beyond expression. Its paralysing.

For me I went buy Minixodil back in 2016 and the guard told me she does not know what I am talking about so I picked up Biotin. My mom told me I only bought the Biotin but something tells me all of the time I bought the Minixodil and used it I don't know why it has also became an intrusive thought. Sometimes I dont know if I had bought it or not 😢
